Break Down

I had a total and complete break down the other day.  I was down stairs exercising and Elleree came down and said, "mom we made bubbles".  What? Yeah!  I went up stairs and was confronted with a mess.  One of those messes that you just think "how am I ever going to clean this up."
My daughter and son had taken the bottle of body wash that I just bought and emptied it all over my house.
All over my carpets, tile everything.  Cleaning it up took hours.
It just kept foaming and I just kept pouring water on it.  I swear I cried the whole time I was cleaning it.  I talk to other people and their kids don't do things like this!  They don't draw on walls and poop on floors.  All I kept thinking was what am I doing wrong as a mother.  I mean REALLY!
Mean while I really do love my kids.  Even the monster.  He has this pig (from If You Give a Pig a Pancake) that my friend gave him, he loves the thing.  It is in the drawer with him.
Being the awesome mom I am, Dillon wanted cupcakes, so I made cupcakes.  He didn't want just any cupcakes, but Grinch Cupcakes.
I am pretty proud of how they turned out.
His class didn't really eat them which was really great.  I hope you are catching my sarcasm there.  I don't even know why I bother.
Most Christmas's I try and do something everyday before Christmas.  It kind of keeps the kids excited, I know like they need that. Right?
I've been really bad at taking pictures though so I finally took some.  We made gramcracker houses.
Beckett just ran around creating havoc.
It was really just a chance for the kids to make a mess and eat frosting and candy.  Their houses turned out okay, but they got frustrated because they kept falling over.
Elleree just embraced the fallen pile of crackers and decorated it.
I think they had fun.
Some of the other things we have done are make cinnamon ornaments, shop for ornaments, watch the Christmas Story, make goodies, pass goodies out to neighbors, look at Christmas lights.  I just want to have traditions that my kids look forward to every year.  I am afraid it may turn in into another one of those things where I put a ton of work into it. And the only thing they remember is how I threaten them, that they better have fun, or I'm going to hurt them.   So we shall see.

The bubble incident sounds very trying!
Even the puke cleaner wouldn't soak it up? So sorry!

Now.. those Grinch cupcakes are amazing!! Fabulous!
How could kids not eat them? UNLESSSSSS... they were so amazed at that they wanted to save them to show their parents? Seriously those are so cool. Did you just make them up?

Whatever your traditions are, they will each remember something different... and maybe something you didn't want them too...but at least you are giving it your best. I think that is wayyyy better than not trying at all!

Kids! Why do we have them anyway?! Cuz the good times always outweigh the bad. There ARE times you want to throttle them but there are tons of times that outweigh them. I always wanted to do cool things with the kids--particularly around Christmas time. Craft projects, cooking projects...they never turned out quite the way I planned, but the kids DO remember them. They were talking just the other day about decorating cookies and how they would frost about two cookies and then they were done. Leaving me with about 200 to frost by myself. Just keep it up no matter how things turn out. There WILL be lasting memories!! AND those Grinch cupcakes were AWESOME!!! I think the kids definitely did not eat them because they were so cool.

Hang in there. Seriously....being a mom is the toughest job in the world. At least you're trying and putting in the effort....they know that...even though it doesn't seem like it. They know you love them!

LOVE. LOVE. LOVE. The cupcakes...I agree with everyone else...too cool to eat!

Ah man!
You are NOT doing anything wrong. You didn't tear the kids limb from limb - which would be a totally reasonable desire given the situation...

You made some INCREDIBLE cupcakes, created some lasting memories and are able to recognize the importance of creating said memories before they are gone.

You rock. Straight up.

Love you.
